Why ‘Girls Only’ Is Important
Liberal Voice for Women are excited to be hosting Tracy Shaw and Tanya Carter from the Safe Schools Alliance next Monday 11 October at 7pm. As rates of violence against women and girls soar, what role do schools have to play in safeguarding girls? What issues are they facing and are they getting it right?
Safe Schools Alliance is a grassroots group of carers, teachers, governors and other health and educational professionals, with an interest in safeguarding children. Their aim is to ensure that safeguarding is upheld in schools and that the Equality Act is correctly interpreted, being mindful of the rights of all nine protected characteristics. It is important that schools are properly inclusive environments, which are welcoming and tolerant of all members of their parent and student community. At the moment, the rights of girls are frequently being overridden or downgraded and it is putting them in harm’s way.
Spokeswomen Tanya and Tracy will be joining us to talk about some of the issues they are seeing in schools caused by the drive to focus on gender rather than sex; they will share what they are doing to combat it; and discuss ways in which we can all help support their aims of ensuring safeguarding is upheld in our own communities.
They would like to make this as interactive as possible so please come with your questions and they will attempt to answer them.
